| | | Bodybuilding competition is based on having the most muscular and aesthetically pleasing physique. Low bodyfat, muscular symmetry, and a polished posing routine are very important for bodybuilding competitiors. In bodybuilding competitions, competitiors each give a posing presentation, sometimes accompanied by music. The competitors are scored by a panel of judges and the scores are tallied to determine rankings. After the scores from the individual routines are tallied, the judges call the finalists onstage for a "pose-down," where they pose side by side. The finalists are then scored and a winner is determined. Major amateur competitions include the Mr. America and Mr. Universe competitions. The major professional competition is the Mr. Olympia, sponsored by the International Federation of Body Builders (IFBB). |
| Powerlifters compete in three lifts, the bench press, deadlift, and back squat. Lifters are divided into weight classes. Awards are given for each weight class to the top lifters in each exercise and for the lifters who compile the highest totals. |
