Description


A relay race is a race between teams, in which each member of the team runs a certain distance. Relay races are named for the number of members on each team and the length each team-member runs - for example in a 4x100 there are 4 team-members, each of which run 100 meters.

  • 4x100 Meter Relay
    • Men's World Record - Mike Marsh, Leroy Burrell, Dennis Mitchell, Carl Lewis - 37.40 seconds - 8/8/92
    • Women's World Record - Romy Muller, Barbel Wockel, Ingrid Auerswald, Marlies Gohr - 41.60 seconds - 8/1/80

  • 4x400 Meter Relay
    • Men's World Record - Andrew Valmon, Quincy Watts, Michael Johnson, Steve Lewis - 2:55.74 - 8/8/92
    • Women's World Record - Tatiana Ledovskaia, Olga Nazarova, Maria Piniguina, Olga Bryzguina - 3:15.18 - 10/01/88
